Multinational Corporation A needed to connect via a VPN from global corporate headquarters Checkpoint Firewall-1 to outlying businesses in Libya and Tunisia and other parts of the globe where US encryption export embargoes and Checkpoint country of use restrictions would apply. I researched, designed, implemented a hardened VPN gateway build based on public domain software (IPSEC on hardened specially patched Linux kernel) and international communication / encryption standards (Ipsec and AES) but communicating with the standards in place at the Paris gateway. This was followed by a complete documentation set, an image creation and use process and a knowledge sharing session enabling the build to be rolled out easily across the corporation. In addition to delivering the requirement it saved quite considerable sums of money in comparison with the costs of Checkpoint licenses. |
